STANDARD ISSUE SMALL ARM
Most law officers and members of FADE carry this small handgun everywhere they go. Michael keeps his on his side, with extra rounds in his vest pockets.
STANDARD ISSUE TASER
Like the handgun, this taser is generally carried by other members of FADE. Law enforcement are never given tasers with this capacity, and on the highest setting the electrical output from this thing can kill a horse. He tends to leave it on human-stun setting.
STANDARD ISSUE PEPPER SPRAY
Pepper spray he occasionally will joke is breath spray.
STANDARD ISSUE BULLETPROOF VEST
It's a bulky, kind of ugly, vest that will stop a bullet from killing him. It says the number of his unit across the back in reflective letters.
FOLDING KNIFE
There's a rule: always have a knife. So Mikey has one.
KILL SWITCH
This switch is wired to, and designed specifically for, the Tracker that is assigned to him. It will not work on any other Enhanced person.

HANDLER TRAINING
Micheal had gone through, and excelled at, basic training. He is physically fit, and has been taught to monitor for threats in the field. Physically he is able to handle himself, but the majority of his training actually went into how to control his Enhanced partner. He is the one who gives the orders, and he is the one with the kill switch.
COMBAT TRAINING
He's been through hand to hand combative training courses. While he's certainly not at the level of Batman, he will ninja you good given the opportunity. Plus, he'll even make funny martial arts noises.
SHOOTING
While not a crack shot, Michael has been trained in the use of multiple types of firearms. He's trained with them extensively, and is known for have a fairly good aim.
NEGOTIATION AND DEESCALATION
Mikey is a relatable person who excels at coming across as sympathetic, even if he doesn't necessarily agree with you. With a basic training in hostage negotiation Mikey is pretty good at deescalating situations and talking people down from acts that would threaten the safety of other people.

As a Handler Michael is often thrust into situations where he and his Tracker have to do battle against other Enhanced. Despite the body armor he is not really able to go toe to toe with most of them. He might have his Tracker to protect him, but Michael on his own is fairly easy to kill.

Michael believes wholeheartedly in the propaganda and thinks that his job as a Handler is helping to save lives. He is adorably patriotic, and doesn't tend to question the orders of his superiors. Being young, and a Rookie Handler, he also lacks experience.

Corrected with glasses, or contacts when he's on the field, usually this isn't a big issue. But if you knock off his glasses he won't be able to shoot you very accurately.

Michael, at his core, is an optimistic extrovert. He's a young man of easy smiles, and even easier laughs, who seems unnatural and even awkward when he tries to be too serious. This seriousness is mostly reserved for when he's on the job and sometimes he comes across as trying too hard. He can be a little absent-minded, and is easily distracted, which gave him the nickname Space Cadet. Mikey has a rigid moral code. He believes strongly in right and wrong, and thinks that he's helping save the world by working as a Handler. The young man has been completely brainwashed into the system, to an extent, but he doesn't necessarily think that the enhanced are evil. He just think they need to be contained, and trained. For national security.
Mikey, a procrastinator who gives in fairly easily when people pull out the puppy face, is not the person to train anyone. He's devoted to his job, his country, and his team, but his ability to self-motivate is nearly nonexistent. He's alsonot totally confident in his leadership ability yet. Probably because he's always been the lower rank in his partnerships while he was a police officer. His tendency to ask what the people under him want to do can often be seen as a weakness and, like a gigantic puppy, he kind of wants to make friends with everybody. Except criminals. Criminals are bad.
Despite being such a bright and bubbly personality Michael hates mornings. He'd have trouble getting out of bed in the morning if he didn't love his job so much. Actually, he still has trouble getting out of bed and is notorious for running in at the last moment or coming in a few minutes later with a giant box of doughnuts as an apology. While it's not good for a Handler Mikey is a soft and squishy kind of guy. He cares. A lot. Growing up the middle child he was always something of a mediator, and his ability to understand and appear to empathize people was one of the reasons his old department was fast-tracking him for hostage negotiation before he jumped ship to be a Handler.

Growing up in an upper middle class suburb Michael's life wasn't very hard. He just didn't know that. He had two parents who loved him, an older sibling that bullied him, a younger one who followed him around everywhere, and a dog named Rover. Nothing happened beyond classic growing pains. His life wasn't fraught with trauma. His parents were incredibly conservative, however, and instilled in him their mindless sort of patriotism.
He decided he wanted to be a Handler in middle school. It was career day and one of them came to talk to the pre-teens about their occupation. They even brought along their Tracker! Michael was nervous, at first, but he'd never seen anyone looks so cool and collected. His childhood dream of growing up to be a police officer shifted easily, and not one to give up on his dreams once he's made up his mind, Michael followed through.
All of high school he struggled to keep his GPA high enough to get into college and earn a degree in Law Enforcement and Handling. He was a good kid. He stayed away from drugs, alcohol, and making dumb deals with Enhanced. Which, apparently, was a thing to do during highschool. He graduated with a solid 3.0 and was accepted into the school of his choice.
Michael worked hard all through college. He focused on his classes, keeping his grades above a C when he had trouble adjusting to dorm life, and managed to get an internship with his local police station as a junior. He graduated college with a 2.89 GPA and applied to start training as a FADE handler.
He didn't get in. Michael took a job with the police station, going through basic training to become a Rookie Cop, and continued to apply to FADE. During this time he did very well as a Police Officer and was nominated by his superiors to get hostage negotiation training. Three years later, at 25, he got in. It was the happiest day of his life. He arrived at basic training with a giant smile on his stupid face. He excelled at training, working his hardest to be the top of his class despite mediocre grades the rest of his life. Six months later the incredibly intense Handler basic training was over and he was ready to meet his Tracker.
