The abandoned subway tunnels were so cool.
Molly Hayes was exploring the New York City underground. She bounced along a set of tracks that hadn't been used in years. The little girl tiptoed along the rail, her arms held out like she was a trapeze artist, and she giggled as she tried to keep her balance. She was super strong, though, not super coordinated and she spent as much time falling off as she did hopping back on.
A shadow in the distance told her that she was approaching something big. The little girl stopped abruptly, staring with wide eyes, until she realized that it was just an old train car. Cool! she launched into a sprint, racing forward to go and explore what she hoped would become a new playground.
She couldn't wait to show this to Kamala! Whenever the older girl got back from the very important thing she had to do up in the city. Molly didn't ask too many questions after the teenager made it clear that she was doing something boring. The little mutant had promised she wouldn't wander far but it was hard to tell how far was far. Was it far yet? Did it matter? She'd just found a cool train car!
The child in the frog hat skidded to a stop when she saw movement. Remembering the rat monsters Molly didn't hesitate. Her eyes turned a brilliant fuchsia, the same color flicking to the ends of her brown hair, as her powers activated. She made a squeaking noise, her hands shaking with fear, as she went for the nearest projectile.
Unfortunately for the person she'd mistaken for a monster it happened to be the abandoned train car. The metal made a groaning noise as it was picked up, the top screeching along the decaying tile of the tunnel, before it came crashing to a halt crumpling against the other side of the tunnel wall. Molly waited, her powers still activated, to see if the monster was going to attack or not. Her knees shook and her hands stayed white knuckled fists at her sides.TAG:Querl Dox

While the eleven year old human was easily entertained by the old subway tunnels, the seventeen year old alien was less impressed. But for now it was home. Most superpowered folks could manage above ground as long as they didn't use their powers, Querl was less lucky. His Coluan physique made him stand out like a sore thumb, and even if he could cloak his green skin, there was a lot about the twenty-first century he had yet to learn. It was a frustrating situation for him to say the least.
For now, he was just trying to get by day by day and piece together a way to get back to his world, and hopefully, his century too. But that would take a while. Months at best.
The alien walked down the tunnel with a couple of bags. One of groceries he picked up. Nothing nutritious, just what he could grab and buy before drawing attention to himself. Most of it were poptarts, cans of soup, and other cheap already made foods. He scowled at his choice of food, but money was hard to come by in an honest way for him.
The other bag had old computer parts. Old as in dinosaurs even for the twenty-first century. He had taken scrap parts of long abandoned computers. Querl could only use what he could get, and that was the best he could manage for the moment. The bag was full of circuit boards, and believe it or not had a couple of surviving floppy disks.
Unfortunately for Querl, he was mistaken for a monster as he approach the little spot he called his own. He didn't even realize there was a little girl there until heard the loud shrieks of bending metal. Looking quite startled, he was by all means surprised to see a small child lift the train car, and well, throw it at him.
The two bags dropped to his sides, and his hands were now busy activating his force field. Despite being safe-ish contained in the field, he ducked and scrambled out of it's way.
Dust and grime cleared from the air after impact, and Brainiac 5 took a defensive stance as he watched the preteen.

For a moment nothing moved. Molly stood still, breathing heavily more so from fear than exertion, as she kept her powers activated. She was pretty sure if it was another rat monster it would have made a screaming noise when she hit it with the train car. She'd heard no such screaming. Maybe she'd killed it?A wave of guilt washed over the girl as she deactivated her powers and cautiously moved forward. She was tired now. Her eyes drooped as she moved closer to the wave of dirt and dust disturbed by the sudden movement of the train car. As it settled she realized there was a person. She felt awful now. Her friends had explicitly told her not to use her powers on anyone that didn't have powers too. Then she realized the person was green."She-hulk?" Molly said, perking up at the idea of meeting one of her heroes as she moved past the wreck of the train car to approach Braniac 5. The smile on her face faltered as soon as she got close enough to really see the person she'd just lobbed a train car at. "Hey! You're a boy!" the child exclaimed as she skidded to a stop a few feet away from Querl. She stared at him wide-eyed for a moment, but her usually sharp eyes weren't very focused. "Are you Hulkboy?" she asked. "I'msorryIthrewatrainatyou," she mumbled, her eyes going to her shoes as she rocked awkwardly on her heels, as explanation for her less than friendly greeting. "I thought you were a monster."TAG:Querl Dox

Brainiac 5 stayed in a guarded position as the girl approached him. She wasn't planning at lobbing another train car... was she? He hoped not. And where were her parents? It was weird to see a crazy strong little girl. It was also weird to see a little girl at all in abandoned train tunnels.
"Hey! You're a boy!"
Well wasn't she the observant one. Seriously, why was he putting up with humans again? They did nothing but state the obvious, and ramble about nonsense. "Hulkboy? What are you talking about?" He rolled his eyes at the little girl. If it was some sort of twenty-first century slang he was out of luck. He hadn't heard it used before. Brainy waved a hand at her mumbled apology. As long as she wasn't going to do it again he could forgive her.
"Well clearly I'm not. I am Brainiac 5. Who are you?" Maybe the girl was just lost. If he could help her to her parents that would get rid of her. For now he went back over to his bags that spilled across the ground. He crouched down, putting the cans of food back in the bag only to find a hole in it now. Great. This day was turning out just peachy.

"Braniac?" the little girl echoed the name curiously, her bright eyes roaming over his bags and their fallen goods. "That means you're really smart, right?" she asked. She'd never heard the term used positively, mostly as an insult, like when Chase was being stupid or Alex had left them all in the dust with his superior intellect. There was nothing wrong with reclaiming the term, though, even if Molly didn't exactly understand the significance of such a thing."I'm Molly!" she introduced brightly, she picked up a can near her and held it out towards the green boy with a cheerful smile. "You're not related the the Hulk..." she'd already figured that out. Mostly because only somebody not from this planet wouldn't know about the Hulk. He was just way too iconic! "...but you're super strong, right?" her eyes searched the older boy curiously. He'd survived her throwing a train at him with little effect. "Are you an alien?" she asked candidly, before plowing on, "My friend Karolina's an alien. I'm not. I'm a mutant! But not a bad mutant- hey, are those Pop Tarts? Can I have one?" she picked up the slightly dented box of strawberry Pop Tarts and held it up for Querl to see with a pleading look on her little face. Her parents never let her have Pop Tarts. They were way too unhealthy! TAG:Querl Dox

Brainy rolled his eyes at the girl. Of course he was smart. Brainiac was only a name that was passed down through his lineage of twelfth level intellects. He was no doubt the smartest person she was going to meet on this simple planet. He'd easily scoff at her clever friends and their so-called superior intellects.
"Hello Molly." He still didn't know what she was going on about when she talked about a Hulk. He hadn't heard the word used as a noun before, so he was assuming someone made it their superhero name since she was talking about being related to it. He let out a smirk at the strength comment. Brainy had some muscle on his bone, but he was hardly Ultra Boy.
"I wouldn't say super." Brainy looked over to the car against the wall. "I used a forcefield. I'm from Colu." He was only lucky enough to meet one other alien while in this world, and well, she was only half of a race he thought to be long extinct. So he would be lying if he said he wasn't wondering what species this Karolina was. It was a bit comforting to know he wasn't the only one not only not from this world, but not from Earth as well.
Peering up at the box he nodded. "Help yourself. How many more are down here?" He couldn't imagine this little girl was left on her own. If she was, he found it hard to believe that she was so willing to approach strangers... Even if she threw a train at him, she was still very friendly.

Molly made an excited squeak of a sound at the permission, that sort of sounded like a "thanks!" and eagerly tore into the box. She pulled out one of the silvery packages and plopped down on the ground to set the box aside and rip away the foil keeping her from her treat. The little girl took a bite before she considered Brainy's question."I dunno how many exactly," the little girl replied with a shrug after swallowing down a quickly chewed bite. "Kamala says I should be careful because there are bad people down here. I haven't met any, though," she paused, her eyes widening as she regarded the green boy who'd just given her some Poptarts. "You're not bad, right?" she asked, just to double check. Obviously if he was she'd just have to convince him to join the side of good. Easy! She finished one of the pair of Poptarts from her package."Is Colu very far away?" the little girl asked curiously. "Does everybody have forcefield powers there?" TAG:Querl Dox

The Coluan shrugged off the girl's thanks. She sure was eager for a piece of sugar claiming to be a breakfast food. It was just a bunch of empty calories, but it's what he could afford at the moment.
He grabbed the bag that held the computer junk, and sat down beside her. While she spoke he examined the pieces to make sure the already archaic technology wasn't broken. Thankfully, they were merely covered in grime. "So this Kamala is another meta-human I assume?" He asked, his eyes busy on the circuit board he was wiping crud off of.
Looking back up to her, Brainy shook his head. "I'm not bad. Though, on occasion Cosmic Boy might say otherwise. I'm with the Legion of Superheroes." If that group sounded bad to her, then something was wrong with the girl's head. That was about as heroic a name a group could be called.
"It's very far. The forcefield is a device I built. Coluans don't have powers perse by our intelligence." He looked down. That wasn't really true anymore, not with the Coluans stripped of their intellect. "Humans are generally at a fifth or sixth level intellect. Coluans around the 10th level. I myself am a twelfth level intellect. A prodigy even for a genius species." He couldn't help but add that last part. He pushed his ego a bit as he bragged how smart he was to the eleven year old.

Molly started to nod in agreement when she realized that she wasn't actually sure what she was agreeing to. Was Kamala a metahuman? "What's a metahuman? Is it like a mutant?" the little girl asked curiously. She'd never heard that terminology before. Probably because it was copy-righted.She'd also never heard of Cosmic Boy, but Molly was certainly impressed by the idea of an entire legion of superheroes! Her mouth formed an O and her bright eyes sparkled at the idea. Molly, of course, had no idea what a legion actually was but she thought it sounded pretty impressive. Her opinion of Braniac only grew as he kept bragging about himself. She listened intently, awe obviously painting her features, and she brightened at the idea of a force field device."Can I see it!? Can I see it!?" she asked exactly crawling closer to the other boy because personal space was easily forgotten in excitement. "I wanna see the force field doohickey! My friend Alex was super smart like you!" she confided. "He was sixteen!" this information wasn't necessary, but Molly didn't quite understand the intellect levels. "But he died when he betrayed us like a lying liar-face." The girl's voice went quiet as she admitted: "I kinda miss him, though." "You're a superhero!" she exclaimed, her expression broadening into an ecstatic smile, as if to distract herself from sad thoughts. Her parents had died that same day Alex had. It had been her fault because she'd smashed the sacrifice. "I'm a superhero too! My codename is Princess Powerful and I have a pink cape! I haven't come up with a themesong yet. Do you have a themesong?" TAG:Querl Dox

Metahuman? Mutant? Brainy stopped when the little girl's vocabulary seemed a bit off. Generally mutant some gross monster, metahuman referred to people. But then again metahumans were people with a mutant gene, so he figured they were close enough to be the same in this case. "They're pretty much the same thing, but metahuman is a nicer way to put it. It's a person with a gene that gives them powers basically." This girl didn't seem to know much about her own kind, but she was still young and learning so he didn't blame her for being entirely stupid.
Brainiac 5 scooted over as Molly came closer. He liked his space, especially when it wasn't being invaded by a grabby kid. "It's just a belt, the forcefield isn't visual either. And age has nothing to do with intellect." He really doubted her traitorous friend Alex would measure up to him, but he kept that part to himself. After this Alex guy was smart for a human, Brainy was smart for a Coluan.
"Yeah no kidding." After all this she finally just realized? Ugh, humans were exhausting. He listened to her as she rambled on about herself being a hero despite being so young. Like she saw it as a game. The whole heroing work was dangerous, he doubted she actually went out and fought crime. He had to keep from scoffing at the mention of a themesong. "Don't be ridiculous. That only happens in old cartoons."

Molly scooted after Brainy oblivious to his desire for personal space in her own curiosity. "Can I try it? Can I? Can I?" she asked, still imagining that a force field would be kind of cool and sparkly. Even if the green boy said it wasn't. "I wasn't allowed to touch any of Chases' gadgets because Niko said I would burn myself," she informed him, as if this information would make him more likely to agree to let her play with things she shouldn't. "Real superheroes do too have themesongs!" Molly defended with a pout. "Dazzler has a themesong! She's not a cartoon! All the best superheroes have themesongs," she informed him, as if this was a significant step on his quest to become the greatest superhero ever. "Spiderman has one too! Everybody knows that one!" so, of course, she started singing it: "Spiderman~ Spiderman~" TAG:Querl Dox

"Fine." Brainy finally grumbled in defeat. She was really getting annoying with her constant asking for the forcefield. He opened the belt buckle to reveal buttons, and pressed one. A faint green glow covered his body. Standing up he smirked. "Okay kid, punch me as hard as you can." The force of her power was sure to knock him back, but it wouldn't harm him. It was nice to show off his creations every once in a while.
He put his hands on his hips and shook his head. "I haven't even heard of Dazzler or Spiderman. Where I come from, heroes don't have theme songs." He had to stop himself from saying when. And Spiderman? Really? That was a pretty ridiculous name... but then again he did have a guy on his team called Bouncing Boy...

"Whoaaaaa!" Molly exclaimed as he stood up an activated the forcefield. Her eyes widened and her face lit up when the green man said she could punch him as hard as she could. Usually all the older kids told her to tone it down, to not hit as hard as possible, so this was totally a treat. She activated her powers, still smiling, and her eyes lit with fuchsia light. Then he mentioned that superheroes where he was from didn't have themesongs and he'd never even heard of Dazzler or Spiderman! The smile dropped. She punched him. Hard.Molly chased after him, her expression slightly worried, until she saw he was unharmed. The forcefield was awesome! "That is so cool!" she shouted, moving erratically in her excitement, as she practically danced next to Querl. "I know superheroes in your League of Awesome or whatever don't have themesongs but you should!" she pressed. "I'll make you one!" And then she burst out in impromptu song:"Braniac 5 is really smart! He's green and has a big heart! He even gave me a Pop Tart! Ummm...." The little girl scrunched up her nose in contemplative thought as she pondered what else would work in the song. "What's a word that rhymes that means butt-kicking? Or forcefield?" TAG:Querl Dox

The girl's fist connected to the forcefield, and damn she punched hard. Brainy flew back into the wall of the underground. He got back up, unharmed and switched off his forcefield. The little girl's power was impressive, maybe even on parr with Ultraboy.
Boy was she excited to, shouting happily. Brainiac didn't understand what was so exciting about it, but what ever floated her boat, right? He jumped as she loudly burst into song, not expecting it to be about him. Really smart? That was a bit of an understatement. And this song was just silly nonsense. If Lightning Lad heard it, he'd never let Brainy live it down. Good thing it was just him and Molly there. Even so there was no way he was going to use that song. "There is no such word. I'm fine without a song thanks, it's a waste of time."

"Awwwwwww," Molly whined as Brainy dismissed her themesong attempt. The little girl sighed over-dramatically. "My friends didn't want a themesong either. We didn't even get costumes!" she complained, because even if themesongs weren't a staple of superheroing where he was from costumes had to be, right? "What's your costume look like?" she asked excitedly, now off on that tangent. "Do you have a cape? I have a cape! Like Storm! It's pink and it has two Ps on it because my superhero name is Princess Powerful!" the little girl informed him brightly as she pulled off her backpack and reached inside for the ratty pink sheet that she used as a cape. She pulled it out and showed it to him with a proud smile on her little face. "See!?" TAG:Querl Dox
