The twenty-first century was pretty much how Brainiac 5 expected it. Underwhelming. The technology, if you even dared to call it that, was sad and primitive. Seeing people on their phones to either talk or text made the alien shake his head. It was such a vulgar form of communication. The flight ring he developed had a much more elegant transmitter that could even reach out to the depths of space. To imagine having a call dropped just because you go in a tunnel was appalling. Getting back to his own time was going to take a while.
It was going to take even longer as he soon realized he wasn't in the right world when he arrived. Metropolis? No such place, but there were other heroes he'd never heard of. While he didn't know every hero's name, he was well versed in the names of crime fighters in the twenty-first century. He had often gone to the past to get assistance from Superman and other Kryptonian heroes. Not to mention he had run into other members of the Justice League along the way. Although, Superman had remained the all star of heroes throughout the millennia. So hearing of a Captain America and Iron Man among other names was a bit off putting for the Coluan.
This world didn't seem as friendly towards people who were different. That was a little troubling for a boy who had green skin. He stuck out like a sore thumb. It was a little difficult to keep under the radar, but he managed. It's not like he was doing any crazy stunts, and thankfully New York was full of the strange.
So far he was just trying to collect parts that could hopefully build a device to get him home. The Legion was a mess without his organization. It was going to take a while to put together anything that would work on the level he wanted it to. The computers in this time weren't able to make calculations as fast as he could. A real shame, and they over heated so quickly!
The Coluan let out a sigh and walked down the street. He had a coat over his normal purple suit to cover what green skin of his showed, and had a laptop tucked under his arm. He needed to replace it's internal fan as it crapped out from trying too hard. What a piece of junk! This is a sad excuse for a computer He thought to himself as he made his way to the closest computer store.
Brainiac 5 stopped in his tracks hearing a scream. The hero in him couldn't just ignore a cry of distress like that. Dropping the laptop and throwing off the coat, he leapt into the air, the flight ring letting him soar towards the trouble to do some good in this primitive world.

Another day, another supply run for their awful apartment that just would not stay together. Mar'i had enough duct tape to make the cashier nervous. The trench coat and glasses weren't helping her case. She may not have alien skin, but her eyes certainly were. If anyone caught glimpse of them, it could be trouble. Trouble managed to find her anyway. As she walked from the local plaza down the sketchy streets, home of the lowest income bracket, there was a scream. It seized at her heart. The call to action was too great to ignore it. She picked up the pace, running into a sprint, until she came to the source. Someone, however, had beaten her to it. Mar'i stopped suddenly as a green-skinned man flew before her brazenly in this world that executed anyone remotely different from the agreed term of 'human'. Her eyes widened behind her glasses, mouth open slightly. Who was he? She had been hoping to meet someone like him, but it had been too risky to seek them out herself. Damian was particularly against the idea, and with their lack of capital and options for safe-measures, she couldn't really disagree with him. But here, in the streets above ground, she had met someone. That someone hadn't come out of the blue. The scream reminded her what she was there for. Her gaze snapped to the scene. In the freak category, they weren't alone. A strangely mutated monster was chasing down a woman. Likely, the city would send its militant forces anytime, which was very dangerous for them. Her breath hitched slightly at the scene. They needed to deal with this fast. Even so, Mar'i wasn't going to reveal herself if a stranger already had. The green skin had her guessing Martian, but she wasn't sure what his capabilities were. Perhaps he could deal with it quickly, and she could spare her identity as being just the average down-on-her-luck citizen. Tag: Querl DoxNotes: She'll jump in if he needs help saving the day~

Arriving on to the scene, Brainiac 5 found a woman running from a creature. He couldn't help but wonder how such a creature could just show up on the streets in a world such as this. But no matter it's origin, it was causing trouble and needed to be stopped. And that was just what he was there to do.
He descended in between the poor frightened woman and the beast. He wasn't sure what he was going to do next, but he was going to stop that thing. That was the problem with being in the field by himself. Every Legionnaire had a power, but all being a Coluan granted him was intelligence. While it was great to have as the planner, it wasn't quite as helpful when it came to a physical fight.
Brainy started by turning on his forcefield. Better to be safe than sorry. Then he threw a couple punches. The monster groaned angrily and swung a limb at him. He was able to dodge, but found another limb coming from the other direction and he was knocked down. While he was doing something against the beast, it wasn't much. Ugh, where's Lightning Lass when you need her? It was much easier to work on a team. Hand to hand combat could only get him so far. A jolt of electricity would've easily taken the creature down he was sure. But wait, that gave him an idea!
Hopping back to his feet, the Coluan backed up from the creature and pulled off his belt. If he could avoid getting hit long enough to rewire his forcefield belt, it could send electricity through the monster's system and stop it. Now all he needed was a distraction.

Sirens were a reminder why monster attacks were so rare in the city; governmental response was prompt. It wouldn't be so bad if it didn't mean death. Mar'i watched the entire scene with brows furrowed behind her glasses. The green-skinned, she assumed boy, was throwing up force-fields which complicated her Martian theory. Whoever, or whatever he was didn't matter so much as getting him out of sight. The upside of his intervention was that their prime witness had enough time to escape. The sound of sirens may as well have been a ticking doomsday clock, as disaster became more imminent with every oscillation. Her hand shot out from the sleeve of her black trench-coat, and from her semi-curled hand came a beam of light that was powerful enough to slam the monster in all its seven foot glory bodily against the wall. It even managed to crack the already decaying structure further. However, it wasn't the semi-conscious troublemaker she was flying toward. It was the young man, who despite the extra-terrestrial features reminded her of an adolescent boy. She stopped before him, hovering. "Leave the creature. We need to go," she urged. They couldn't hope to outrun vehicles. They could out-fly them. She couldn't afford to wait around for an answer. Maybe she would have stayed to challenge authority, but she had someone to think about. Hopefully, this kid wasn't as rash as she had been in her adolescence. She flew up toward the roof of the farthest building within the vicinity of the alley to hide behind the exterior vent system.

The sirens didn't really get Brainiac 5's attention. He was tinkering with his belt and dodging the monster. It was persistent, that much he was sure of.
The blast of light flying past his face and into the monster was quite a surprise for the Coluan. He peered at the monster against the wall to make sure it wasn't going to get back up right away, and turned to look for the source. Well the girl floating before him was probably it. He gazed at her. She wasn't familiar, but he assumed she was still good. She hit the monster not him after all. She was also telling him to get out of there.
Brainiac 5 looked back at the creature. He didn't want to just leave the thing on the streets. Who knew what it's destructive potential could be. Still the cops were coming, and he hoped they were competent enough to contain it. If not he was willing to risk getting caught and detain the thing himself. He was a hero after all. He couldn't just sit about and watch it run loose. He was all for taking on the cops to fight for proper justice. But he had his future and world to get back to. Getting thrown in jail wouldn't help.
For now he turned back to the young woman. "Yeah, let's go."Once more he jumped into the air, letting the ring keep him up. Brainy followed her to a roof, and stepped down beside. "So who are you?" It would be nice to know who he got the assist from.

There was relief when she saw he had followed her without much issue. She waited a moment, observing the activity below as armed units flooded out of the van, before turning to look at him. "Nightstar," she answered, pulling up the glasses from her eyes to reveal the unified green colour to her fellow hide-away. A friendly quirk of the eyebrows later, and she dropped them back into place. "But I also go by Mar'i if you'd prefer."
The unfortunate cries of the monster as it was corralled into the van echoed below them. The sounds of a struggle and orders being given were heard, briefly. She hadn't, fortunately, had many opportunities to see for herself how the local authorities handled the government's crazy militant policies when it came to anyone who remotely deviated from their definition of human. She had managed to lay low for the few months that she's been stuck in the unfriendly universe. Releasing that pent-up energy in one blast had felt good. Her fingers twitched beside her as watched the squad return to their van.
Nightstar didn't act on the desire to protest violently. She engaged the young man beside her instead. "And I suppose I should call you lucky," she said in light jest. "You're not exactly inconspicuous, but you seem to be getting around above ground."

Brainiac 5 looked over the woman's eyes, and wow. They were a stunning green. While there were many mutations in the human species that created various appearances, Brainy found her gaze distinctly not human. He was pretty sure, and boy was this one time he didn't want to be wrong. He hadn't run into anyone else that was from beyond this planet.
"I'm Brainiac 5." The Coluan responded with his own name. He preferred to keep it to code names. He hadn't been called Querl since he was twelve at least. It was just too weird after referring to all his friends by their hero names.
His attention was brought back to the beast and authorities below. They barely seemed to know what they were doing with the thing, and resorted to force when it resisted. He shook his head, it was sloppy work.
Brainy's eyes went back to Nightstar. She had a point and he gave her a shrug. "I've been underground mostly. Coming up for errands. It's not exactly thrilling." He gazed at her sunglasses, trying to see the green eyes behind them, but only finding his reflection instead. "What are you?" It was after he said that he realized it came off as rude.

Mar'i's eyes went wide behind the glasses when he introduced himself. Braniac 5?! She knew him--well, of him. He was so young! She listened to him recount how he managed to get around, and nodded along subtly. She reminded herself not to take for granted that she could blend in better than some. Of course, even she knew how limiting extraterrestrial features could be, as she couldn't go anywhere without her sunglasses. They couldn't all be Superman's brand of alien, after all.
She grinned when he asked her. The question was understandable, if not the most courteous. "I'm half-Tamaranean," she answered. "If you know of her, Starfire was my mother," she said, though unfortunately using the past tense. Her mother had been gone from her life since she was eleven. She didn't want to dwell on that topic.
"Actually, I'm from another universe where you're much older. I know you daughter--well, I don't know her exactly," Mar'i admitted.
"But I know of her. She's around my age, yet here... you look like you're younger than me!"
The whole thing was so bizzare. It made her wonder if there was a version of herself out there, still young, or maybe old and married. Probably not from his universe, since he showed no recognition and had to ask.

Querl's eyes widened in equal surprise at the term Tamaranean. An extinct species in his time, and scarce in the current time. He had only met Starfire once or twice, and he would've liked the chance to study her if their teams had not met only during dire situations. And the records of the species wasn't well kept. The losing side of a war hardly ever gets to tell their side of the story after all. But now a half Tamaranean woman stood before him. "Yes, I've worked with her and the Titans before. What happened to her?"
With time travel possible, Brainiac 5 was at first skeptical that the two were from different universes. It was possible, he's met two other versions of himself once. But she could've met his future daughter, he was still only a teen and that had yet to happen. But the thought of having a daughter put a knot in his stomach, and he begged in his head that the child wasn't born with Dream Girl as his wife. He'd go nuts if she was right about their marrying.
He nodded to confirm her suspicions about his age. "I am seventeen in Earth terms right now. It's possible I'll have this daughter you're talking about in my future." As much as he was curious, it was usually best not to know about what was going to happen in the future. Time travel was tricky like that.

Mar'i struggled with the question. She didn't like to talk about it, but it was understandable to ask. "She..." Mar'i began, biting her lower lip and looking to the side. "She had a blood disease. Didn't make it."
That was all she'd say on the matter, as she tried not to think of the day she lost her mom. It happened twice; once when her parents divorced, and once when death took her away forever. It was the hardest day in Mar'i's life.
Thankfully, they didn't linger on the past, and instead talked about the present and future. She nodded in acknowledgement when he said he was seventeen. That was old enough that he could get around on his own. It was strange to be older than someone she knew as being in a generation prior to hers. Then again, didn't Braniac come from some far away future? In any case, the whole multiverse time travel thing certainly made a mess of generational gaps. "It's possible, but I guess those things are far from your mind now," she said knowingly. Most seventeen year olds she knew had a hard time imagining themselves as being parents anytime soon.
Now she wanted to ask a question. "Where are you staying? I've heard there is an underground haven for, well, people like us who are different," she inquired, wondering if he had any information on it.
